Being a teen typically involves a lot of changes and new experiences. Gaining insight to these and learning some coping skills can help the road go more smoothly. My background in both teaching and counseling in middle and high school settings has enabled me to understand their unique needs and challenges.
I truly enjoy working with this age group and supporting them as they seek to navigate the changes going on in their world. Some of those changes can be less obvious than others. Either way, they can all feel scary and foreign. There are also a lot of choices to be made – both big and small. We can work on learning new skills, such as decision making, communicating, coping, and relationships.
Sometimes, a bigger disruption leads to someone (often a parent, teacher, or health care provider) suggesting a teen seek therapy. Here are a few common ones:
*Anxiety
*Depression
*Relationship issues with family or peers
*Low self-esteem or feelings of self-worth
*School related issues
*Self-harm
*Disordered eating
*Feeling overwhelmed
*Gender identity
*Sexual orientation
*Trauma
I will strive to provide you with a safe, comfortable place to talk, identify your strengths, learn skills, and reach a better understanding of what has been distressing you.
