About
Mary McRae
I use an integrative approach that draws from a variety of modalities, depending on which would be most effective for each client and situation. Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, and Relational tend to be the predominant ones. My goal is to guide clients to solve problems, reach goals, attain emotional health, improve relationships, and realize their potential. I have had extensive training related to depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues. In order for any of that to be effective, however, the relationship between you and me needs to be one that you feel comfortable with. It takes courage to be vulnerable and share your story with me. I do not take that lightly. I will provide a safe haven for you as we work together to help you process what is distressing you. We will then work on skills for you to be best prepared moving forward.

When someone feels that support, insight, and new skills could make life easier, it can be a good time to seek individual therapy. It may be a short term commitment for a temporary struggle or slightly more long term, for something such as mood, anxiety, or personality disorders.

When things are not going well within a family, words are said and actions taken that can make things worse. The effects often extend into other areas, such as work, school, and other relationships. Family therapy can help reduce the conflict and improve the interactions between members.

Navigating relationships can be difficult, no matter if they are new or long-term. Contributing to that is the fact that we are rarely educated, prepared, or trained for managing these important relationships.

Being a teen typically involves a lot of changes and new experiences. Gaining insight to these and learning some coping skills can help the road go more smoothly. My background in both teaching and counseling in middle and high school settings has enabled me to understand their unique needs and challenges.

Eating disorders can affect people of different cultures, ages, body sizes, and genders. Although people tend to think of them as a way for someone to gain attention, they are actually a result of various factors coming together in a perfect storm. They are currently the mental health illness with the highest mortality rate. Recovery IS possible - please reach out.
